Our Story

Vintage Church began in the spring of 2008.  However, this church actually began in the heart of a 7 year old boy from New Orleans.  In the spring of 1988, Rob Wilton was saved by the Gospel of Jesus Christ.  Although he didn’t completely realize it, Christ would instill in him throughout his childhood a passion to proclaim the Gospel in the city of New Orleans.  Although Rob and his family would move away from New Orleans when he was 14, he returned to the city with a clear call from God.  From the spring of 2005 to the fall of 2007, Rob served with a variety of ministries falling more in love with this city.  Throughout this time, Rob and his wife joined up with an incredible team that had the same passion for Jesus and this city. God began to reveal to this team the need for a church in New Orleans that cared more about “being the church” than “going to church”.

During this time of ministry, Rob accepted the call to become the pastor of Valence St. Baptist Church.  Although this wasn’t exactly what Rob had envisioned, the time at VSBC was a beneficial time as it enabled him and a core team of people to gather.  After a few months of conflict and struggle, the core team left VSBC with the purpose of launching a new mission called Vintage Church in Uptown New Orleans.  In January 2008, Vintage Church began with 25 people.  From January to September, Vintage gathered on Wednesday nights in a variety of different locations teaching through the books of I & II Timothy and asking God to create His plan for His church.

On September 28, 2008, Vintage Church officially launched with a Sunday worship gathering in an uptown club and community groups all over the city.  At that time Vintage Church had grown to over 60 people.  In the first year, God blessed Vintage as people were saved and baptized, the leadership team grew, and the attendance in community groups and worship gatherings continued to increase.

As Vintage Church launches into the second year, we are anticipating even greater things through the Spirit of God.  Christ has called us to live the Gospel, love the city, and be the church.  We truly believe that God is going to use Vintage in such a way that He alone receives the glory.  The best is yet to come!
